Penticton RCMP is investigating its second murder of 2009.
Police verified they are investigating a stabbing fatality, but were unable to answer any further questions at press time.
RCMP were on scene at 1605 Hatfield Ave. mid-afternoon Saturday, where the incident occurred in the normally peaceful neighbourhood, not far from Carmi Elementary School.
Roads were blocked off for a period of time in the central part of Penticton on Saturday afternoon. Police tape now surrounds the duplex and RCMP have placed 24-hour security on the property.
Neighbours said the home was owned by a single mother with two teenage sons and they had lived there for at least 10 years. Nobody was sure of the identity of the victim or if there is a suspect.
“They were average people, I‘d wave at them all the time,” said one neighbour, who asked not to be identified.
“They‘d often have barbecues with the other family in the duplex. The mother was salt-of-the-earth and very loyal to her sons. This is a nice neighbourhood. It‘s very shocking and surprising.”
This is Penticton‘s second homicide of 2009.
On May 24, Terence Dale Wooley died in hospital one month after being severely beaten outside Slack Alice‘s Nightclub. The 51-year-old had been unconscious from the time of his severe beating and was never able to speak with police. No charges have been laid in that murder. Top of Page
