NEW YORK - Roy Halladay is reportedly not interested in re-signing with the Toronto Blue Jays once his current contract expires at the end of next season.
The New York Post reported Saturday that Blue Jays president and CEO Paul Beeston doesn’t believe Halladay will return to Toronto, saying the ace right-hander wants to win now.
"We would like to sign him, he is an original Blue Jay and we have never had a pitcher as good as him," Beeston told The Post. "But he is not inclined to sign with us."
Halladay’s future has become the Jays’ primary focus during the off-season, with new GM Alex Anthopoulos hinting earlier this month that Halladay’s time with the team may be winding down.
"(Halladay) stressed his timeline for winning and ours may not mesh and may not match," Anthopoulos said.
The 32-year-old Halladay went 17-10 last season with a 2.79 ERA, finishing fifth in the American League Cy Young voting. Halladay is 148-76 lifetime with the Blue Jays, and won the Cy Young in 2003 after winning a career-high 22 games.
