LETHBRIDGE, Alta. - Canada’s oldest surviving female war veteran has celebrated her 105th birthday.

Fay Meikle enlisted in the Women’s Royal Naval Service in 1943.

She served on a number of ships throughout the Second World War.

Meikle was a recipient of the Canadian Volunteer Service and War Medal.

She lived on her own in Taber, Alta., until she was 97 and currently lives in extended care in Lethbridge, Alta.

Family, friends and politicians attended Sunday’s celebration at the Lethbridge Legion where she was presented with birthday greetings from the Prime Minister.
