SUDBURY, Ont. - Sudbury, Ont., adventurer Meagan McGrath has decided to continue her solo trek to the South Pole despite a setback last week.
On Wednesday the 32-year-old woman fell into a crevasse and needed to be rescued by a crew from a commercial base camp. The accident happened on the second day of the planned 45-day mission from Hercules Inlet to the pole.
McGrath - who emerged from the crevasse with just bruised ribs - plans to resume her challenge today, depending on the weather.
McGrath is travelling alone and dragging her equipment, food and clothing in a sled behind her.
Sudbury-based Science North is tracking McGrath’s progress and says if successful, she’d become Canada’s first person to ski solo the vast distance from Hercules Inlet to the South Pole.
