QUESNEL, B.C. - An RCMP officer in Quesnel, B.C., is facing an assault charge after a prisoner was slapped in the face.
The Mounties say the Crown has approved one charge against Const. Tim Wang after another RCMP officer reported that a handcuffed prisoner was slapped. Wang is scheduled to appear in court Dec. 8.
There is also a separate internal code of conduct investigation into the incident.
RCMP say Wang has been with the force for 12 years, and he remains on active duty at the Quesnel detachment.
Sgt. Rob Vermeulen says in a news release that an officer can remain on duty in such cases if the detachment supervisor and senior management feel the alleged behaviour won’t happen again.
