Olympic torch relay moves from the North to communities in Alberta
Two torchbearers are seen passing the Olympic Flame from one to the other in Yellowknife, NWT, Thursday, Nov. 5, 2009. The Olympic Flame which traveled from Olympia in Greece is now on a 106 day cross country relay which will end in Vancouver on Feb. 12, 2010 to mark the start of the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympic Games. YELLOWKNIFE - After being carried through extreme Arctic temperatures in recent days, the Olympic flame is making its way to a slightly warmer climate.

The torch for the 2010 Winter Games moves from Yellowknife to Grande Prairie, Alberta, Friday morning.

After a community celebration at a Grande Prairie park, the Olympic flame will be carried to Fort McMurray.

While there, torchbearers will include Steven Jani, who also carried the flame for the 1988 Calgary Games.

The torch will wrap up Friday at a Canadian Forces base in Cold Lake, where this country’s fighter pilots are trained.

The 106-day Olympic torch relay will span 45,000 kilometres and visit more than 1,000 communities.
