Forestry crews continued mopping up Sunday at the site of the wildfire which broke out last Thursday near Okanagan Falls. Elise Riedlinger, fire information officer with the Ministry of Forests, said the fire is 100 per cent contained. Originally estimated at 30 hectares, the burned area was remapped over the weekend and found to be 18.1 hectares. “Crews will be continuing to work on mop-up and putting out any hot spots,” she said. The fire brought out Thursday afternoon near Eastside Road and McLean Creek Road. Although the Skaha Estates housing development is located nearby, no homes were lost. . Air tankers and helicopters were initially called in to bring the fire under control. Riedlinger said it has been determined the fire was started by humans, but no exact cause has been determined. Elsewhere in the Okanagan, forestry crews were called out Sunday to battle a one-hectare fire near Bear Creek provincial park opposite Kelowna. “It‘s very visible from the surrounding communities,” Riedlinger said. “But at this time, it‘s not threatening any structures.” The recent spell of hot weather sees the forest fire hazard rating at high throughout most of the Thompson-Okanagan area. However, no campfire ban has been issued.
