The defending-champion Vernon Tigers finally solved the South Okanagan Flames.
Stephane Richard had a hat-trick and Kaden Doughty piled up a goal and five assists as the Tigers defeated the Flames 9-6 in Thompson Okanagan Junior Lacrosse League play Monday at Memorial Arena.
Brent Olsen scored twice and the Tigers built a 4-0 first-period lead as they beat the Flames for the first time in six meetings this season.
Thomas Mackewich, Reid Cashato and Jacob Bremner also scored for the Tigers (3-7-1).
Carson Shortreed had three, Cairo Rogers, Ethan Konno and Zander Torres one each and Keegan Allen two assists for the Flames (4-6-1).
The Flames, who got within 5-4 after two periods, outshot the Tigers 38-36.
With the result, the Kamloops Venom (8-2-0) clinched first place and a bye in the first round of the playoffs. The Flames will play the Tigers in the semifinal round.
The Flames visit Kamloops on Friday and host Vernon once again Monday at 7:30 p.m. at Memorial Arena. The Flames finish the regular season by hosting Kamloops June 21.
