TORONTO - Ontario's police watchdog says it's investigating after an officer allegedly shot a man while pursuing a stolen vehicle in Toronto.
The Special Investigations Unit says the incident happened early Sunday at 1:30 a.m., when officers found a stolen vehicle driving downtown.
The investigation unit says the stolen vehicle collided with a police cruiser before an officer fired multiple rounds at the suspect.
They say the man tried to flee on foot but was apprehended and transported to hospital for treatment to a gunshot wound.
The SIU says four investigators, two forensic investigators and a collision reconstructionist have been assigned to the case.
The SIU is an arm's-length agency that investigates police interactions where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.
