The City of Penticton still does not know what caused the power outage, which affected approximately 6,000 customers, early Wednesday morning.

About 6,000 customers of Penticton’s power utility were in the dark after an outage Wednesday morning.

Most lights were back on by 9 a.m., although pockets of customers waited longer.

FortisBC spokeswoman Nicole Brown said the outage stemmed from unknown “impacts” at one of its substations.

“Some components are designed to shut down when there’s an impact to the system, as a safety precaution,” she explained.
