The District of Summerland is remaining true to its strategic priorities after agreeing to foot the bill for postage costs for the Love Your Lake program.
Funded through the Regional District of the Okanagan-Similkameen’s South Okanagan Conservation Fund, the Love Your Lake program aims to provide shoreline property owners with a detailed report on the state of their beaches and any impacts on people and wildlife.
The program is hoping for assistance from the District of Summerland in getting the word out by printing, and mailing, two letters to property owners affected by the assessment. It’s also asking the district to consider providing a waterfront map with property line details, as well as an individual code for waterfront property users to access their free report.
Coun. Doug Holmes, who sits on the RDOS board, said he believes the costs should come from the $40,000 the program is receiving from the conservation fund.
District staff estimated the cost at a maximum of $200, including materials, postage and staff time.
