KELOWNA — Fire crews had to act quickly when a van caught fire at a Kelowna gas station during the evening commute home Tuesday.

About 4:37 p.m., the fire department received numerous 911 calls reporting a vehicle on fire at the Super Save gas station in the 1400 block of Highway 33.

Arriving fire crews found a holiday camper van engulfed in flames, Platoon Capt. Kelly Stephens said in a news release, adding that “flames were extending into the overhead roof of the gas station.”

The van was filling up with propane at the time of the incident.

Fire crews extinguished the flames.

No one was injured.

Highway 33 was temporarily closed in both directions for safety reasons.

The cause of the fire is not deemed suspicious and remains under investigation.
