Runners race in Naramata

Cold and camp conditions kept everyone moving briskly as 380 athletes from 14 area schools took part in the annual Naramata Cross Country Championship Races Wednesday at Manitou Park.

Wiltse came out on top in all four divisions - Grade 4 and 5 boys and girls.

One record was set this year with Maria Iannone of Uplands setting the Grade 5 girls’ mark in a time of 10 minutes and 25 seconds in the 2.3 km route.

Participating schools included: Carmi, Columbia, Entre Lacs, Giant’s Head, Holy Cross, Kaleden, Naramata, Outma Squilx’w, Parkway, Queen’s Park, Trout Creek, Uplands, West Bench and Wiltse.

Team results are as follows (based on top six qualifying runners):

Grade 4 girls: Wiltse 100, Trout Creek 185, Columbia 214, Holy Cross 225, Giant’s Head 225.

Grade 4 boys: Wiltse 79, Trout Creek 109, Columbia 140, Uplands 167, Parkway 199.

Grade 5 girls: Wiltse 95, West Bench 111, Giant’s Head 127, Entre Lacs 254, Carmi 283.

Grade 5 boys: Wiltse 71, Uplands 91, Parkway 183, Trout Creek 186, Columbia 216.

Individual results are as follows:

Grade 4 girls: Nina Plato (QP) 11:13, Marley Caruso (Wiltse) 11:17, Kiah Planedin (UP) 11:20, Lauren Keilty (HC) 11:24, Nicola Thompson (Kal) 12:03.

Grade 4 boys: Hemming Sola (EL) 10:02, Brett Cerutti (TC) 10:03, Colby Yurkiw (TC) 10:16, Jonah Juoppala (Nar) 10:17, Patrick Geertz (TC) 10:18.

Grade 5 girls: Maria Iannone (UP) 10:25, Acacia Benn (UP) 10:26, Olivia Harrold (TC) 11:03, Sophie Brydon (WB) 11:10, Kassandra Hintz (Wiltse) 11:13.
