Skating rink beckons

Stuart Park skating rink in downtown Kelowna opened a day early on Friday. The outdoor skating-only rink will be open daily from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m., with the ice surface flooded at regular times each day. If temperatures become too warm or the ice quality is affected by midday sunshine, the rink may be temporarily closed until conditions improve. The City of Kelowna's public skate schedule hotline is 250-469-8800 (option 4). Skaters are urged to call the hotline, particularly when weather conditions change, to find out the status of the ice at Stuart Park.

Give a gift to Toys for Tots to Teens

People are invited to stop by from 7 to 9 a.m. and drop off an unwrapped gift for a child or teen, then enjoy a complimentary breakfast. The Columbia Elementary School Choir will perform and Santa Claus is expected to make an appearance. Butch Beagle will be the emcee.

Festival of Lights kicks off holiday season in Summerland

The 25th annual Festival of Lights, from 5 to 10 p.m., features live entertainment with renowned Canadian recording artist Andrew Allen, plus Cod Gone Wild and Elvis tribute artist Adam Fitzpatrick, ice-carving, a visit from Santa, and a fireworks display at 8:30 p.m. sponsored by the Summerland Credit Union. Main Street will be closed to traffic for the evening.
