New volume of Harvie Barker stories

Penticton Herald columnist Harvie Barker has just released a collection of his inspirational columns, A Good Word in Season Volume VI. Copies of the new book will be available at the Penticton United Church spring luncheon, Saturday from 11:30 a.m. - 2 p.m. as well as at the Penticton Herald, Penticton United Church and Hooked on Books. Books are $10 with 100 per cent of the proceeds being donated to Pathways Addiction Centre and the Herald's Be An Angel fund.

Early bird pricing on concerts

Early bird memberships for the 2013-2014 season of Penticton and District Community Concerts are now available. Cost for five concerts is $90 while student rates are $15 for the five shows. The opening show for the 61st season features American pianist Teresa Walters on Sept. 25, followed by the New Orford String Quartet on Oct. 11 and Bermann Piano Duo on Nov. 9. In 2014, Arc Ensemble will perform on March 22 and a local artist appreciation performance will close out the year on May 7. Those planning on renewing their membership can take advantage of a special promotion. Until May 17, anyone purchasing a five-concert package will also receive a free ticket that may be used at any of the five concerts. More to plays than just entertainment

Two one-act plays will be presented by the Traveling Ones Players Saturday at St. Saviour's Anglican Church as a fundraiser for Grandmothers for Africa.

Lady dart players wanted

What do do with those old 78s

Tips on saving those music and audio archives in a digital format will be presented at the Penticton Museum's weekly Brown Bag lecture on Tuesday. Mickey Clarke, an audio technologist and vintage recording distributor, will explore how digital technology can help preserve your valuable music and audio recordings. Clarke owns MC Vintage Recordings and has amassed a collection of 20,000 discs, including many from the 1920s and Ô30s. The Brown Bag lecture begins at noon at the Library-Museum Complex auditorium.
