Art is the eye of the beholder

Discover the difference in how people view art at a fun lottery happening at the Penticton Art Gallery. In the Eye of the Beholder happens on Friday, May 10 from 8 - 10 p.m. and will feature an assortment of items and orphaned artworks discovered in the recesses of the gallery. Every ticket purchase gives people the chance to take home one of these items. Tickets are $25 for art gallery members and students and $30 for non-members and are available at art gallery.

Violin fundraiser truly unique

A total of 15 retired violins and one baritone from the Penticton Academy of Music are getting makeovers in preparation for a transformation into works of art as part of the Encore! Re-purposed Violin Fundraiser. Transformations of the instruments are being completed by a group of professional artists by May 1 and will be on display throughout the month. The fundraiser will conclude on June 4 with a dinner and auction at 6 p.m. at Theo's Restaurant.  Contributing artists are: Bradley Beatty, Glenn Clark, Lawrence Cormier, Kena Cumming Cormier, Jerrlee Dika, Zola Dorey, Beverly Inkster, Terry Isaac, Brigitte Liapis, Susan McCarrell, Veronique Saucier, George Traicheff, Marjolein Witteman, Johann Wessels and Barbara Younger. Tickets are $40 and are available at Theo's or the Penticton Academy of Music office at 220 Manor Park Ave. which is open Monday to Thursday from noon - 5 p.m.
