Local historian Randy Manuel is being named an honorary fellow, the highest honour bestowed annually by Okanagan College.
Manuel, former Kelowna mayor Sharon Shepherd and Indigenous educator Edna Terbasket will be recognized during convocation ceremonies, June 29 in Kelowna.
Manuel, an artist, writer, historian and public servant will be recognized by the college "for his vision and multi-faced efforts in documenting, celebrating, and preserving the history and ecology of the region."
Manuel has supported the Okanagan Historical Society for 50 years, first volunteering at the age of 17. He also served in leadership capacities with the Okanagan Similkameen Parks Society, Kettle Valley Steam Railway Society, SS Sicamous Restoration Society and Okanagan School of the Arts. He was curator of the Penticton Museum for 20 years and upon retirement was elected to Penticton City Council for one term.
