Former Penticton resident Travis Turner is part of the ensemble cast of Some Assembly Required, a live action comedy which debuts tonight (Monday, Jan. 6) on YTV.
Set in a toy store, the show's premise is about a group of teenagers running the fictional Knickknack Toys. Jarvis Raines, a 14-year-old, lands in the unexpected role of CEO after successfully suing the company when a defective chemistry set blows up at his home.
Young Jarvis quickly assembles a group of classmates to help create unique and cool toys in order for the company to survive. His friends include Aster, the most fashionable kid at the school.
Turner plays Aster, the self-professed King of Swag. Although in real life, he's 26, Turner looks much younger due to being just five feet, one inch tall.
Born in Oliver and raised in Penticton, he later left the Okanagan Valley to pursue a career in acting and hiphop music, performing regularly in Vancouver as Little T. He's shared the stage with the likes of B-Real, Warren G and Lil' Kim. He was a featured performer at the Hollywood North Showcase at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver.
His film credits include the direct-to-video sequel to Marley and Me, where he starred in the lead role. Other titles include the TV movies A Fairly Odd Christmas, Trading Christmas and A Princess of Christmas, and guest appearances on Fairly Legal, Supernatural and Battlestar Galactica.
He's also appeared in more than 15 independent films including Scars, Henchin and Snowtrap.
The 26 episodes of Some Assembly Required will be shot before a live audience in Burnaby.
The pilot episode airs tonight on YTV at 6:30 p.m.
