Lakers fall short in late game surge

A spirited third-period comeback fell one goal short for the Penticton Lakers.

Dallas Flockhart scored what proved to be the winning goal with 6:45 to play as the Revelstoke Grizzlies hung on to edge the Lakers 5-4 in KIJHL action Wednesday at the OHS Training Centre rink at the South Okanagan Events Centre.

Devon Hascarl had a goal and two assists and Spencer Samuel, Kent Hendrickson and Brodie Bohler also connected for Revelstoke, which led 2-1 and 4-1 at the period breaks.

Penticton minor hockey product Kale Erickson had one goal and assisted on the other three by JR Krolik, Daylan Robertson and Reilly O’Connor. Tyler Wagner added three assists for the Lakers.

Conrad MacMillan made 29 saves for the Grizzlies and was busy in the third as the Lakers had a 17-6 edge in shots on goal. Niall McGregor gave up four goals on 19 shots before giving way to Stephen Yesevage, who allowed just the game-winner on nine shots.

Penticton almost came back in the third period and had several chances to tie the game after Robertson made it 5-4 with 2:18 to play.

The Lakers (4-10-0) remained in last place in the Okanagan Division, two points behind the Kelowna Chiefs.

Princeton 6 Osoyoos 0: Lane Erickson produced a hat trick and Eric Kubis logged two goals and two assists as the Posse stunned the first-place Coyotes Wednesday at the Princeton and District Arena.

Kyle Moore also scored, Kaleb Boyle collected three assists and Phoenix Logan-Hill made 35 saves to get the shutout as the Posse (8-6-0) edged within eight points of the Coyotes (12-3-0) in the Okanagan Division.

The Posse led 3-0 and 5-0 at the period breaks as they handed the Coyotes their first road setback of the season.

Wade Moyls started for Osoyoos and surrendered five goals on 29 shots. Bryson McKinnon came on to stop 20 of 21 shots.

WEEKEND GAMES: Osoyoos continues a busy stretch with three games in as many days, visiting Revelstoke tonight and hosting Kimberley Dynamiters Saturday at 7:35 p.m. and Kelowna Sunday at 1:35 p.m.

Penticton visits Summerland Steam tonight at 7:30 p.m. and takes on Kimberley Sunday at 2 p.m. at the OHS rink. Summerland (5-7-0-1) travels to the Rutland Arena to take on Kelowna on Saturday.
