The Peach City Beach Cruise is billed as, “Western Canada’s premiere three-day car show” and once again, it delivered.
Sporadic rainfall, one heavy downpour and a couple beats of thunder did little to keep people away from the annual event boasting some of the finest in vintage and classic cars, hot rods and motorcycles.
Ron Muzzillo, president of the Penticton Historic Automobile Society which presents the show said foot and automobile traffic along Lakeshore Drive was as brisk as he’s seen in the past.
“It hasn’t really seemed to deter visitors,” said Muzzillo. “People are still remarking about the scenery. They love seeing the cars against the beach background.”
He complemented the exhibitors for hanging in, especially when buckets of rain fell in the early afternoon.
“It was impressive to see. I thought there might be a mass exodus.”
Muzzillo said they did lay out a contingency plan in the event the rain became too much. Volunteers walked the strip and personally told each entrant what would happen if the day turned into a washout.
Estimates for numbers at the show are on par with last year with about 725 entries lining the roadways. Muzzillo said the person who travelled farthest to participate was from Oklahoma with other Americans travelling from Texas and Arizona aside from the many B.C and Alberta entrants.
