In 1995, Derek Brock and Jason Cunningham worked as baristas in Kelowna’s first Starbucks Coffee location at Orchard Park Shopping Centre.
They would go on to become managers with the coffee company, opening locations in Kelowna, Penticton, and Vernon.
Having “learned the ropes” from the coffee giant, the pair sparked their entrepreneurial fires, and struck out on their own to cofound Jugo Juice in 1998. Thirteen years later, the juice chain had grown to more than 130 stores across Canada and Jugo Juice was purchased by a public company in 2011.
Brock and Cunningham now operate several brands with 40-plus stores throughout Western Canada, and are pleased to be coming “full circle” back to Kelowna and specifically to Orchard Park Shopping Centre.
“This is where it all started for us. We owe a lot to this mall and the community. I graduated at KLO Secondary, and it is rewarding to be opening Chachi’s right here in Kelowna. The city has become a hub for foodies and local food suppliers, and we are excited to be part of that culture.”
The grand opening is scheduled for later this summer and all proceeds will be going to B.C. wildfire victims.
