INGRAMPORT, N.S. - RCMP say a 49-year-old man from Alberta is dead following a motorcycle accident where a rider struck a deer while driving on a Nova Scotia highway.

The accident occurred late Tuesday near Exit 5A on Highway 103 near Ingramport, just south of Halifax.

Police say a group of motorcyclists were travelling west when a rider who was travelling at the front of the group struck a deer.

The unidentified man was thrown from his bike and died at the scene despite efforts to resuscitate him.

The Mounties say one other rider in the group sustained minor injuries.

The highway was closed and traffic was diverted for several hours before the road re-opened shortly before 6 a.m. Wednesday.
